What data does GymWerk process?
GymWerk is a workout app whose workout data stays exclusively on your device. There is no user account and no cloud sync, and your workout data is never transmitted to us or any third party. The only exceptions to purely offline use are the feedback function described below and the optional training-partner feature, which is off by default.
The following data is stored locally on your device (like other apps that work offline):
- Exercises, workout plans and workout history you create (sets, reps, weights, notes)
- Your app settings (e.g. language, keep screen awake, rest times)
This data remains exclusively on your smartphone. We have no access to it, cannot view it and cannot read it. If you delete the app, this data is deleted as well.
No analytics, no tracking, no advertising
GymWerk contains:
- no analytics or tracking tools
- no advertising
- no sharing of your workout data with third parties
- no user accounts or login
Feedback function
When you send a message via "Feedback & suggestions" in the settings, the following details are transmitted to our processor Supabase and stored on servers in Frankfurt, Germany (region eu-central-1):
- your message text
- a name, if you choose to provide one (optional)
- app version, platform (Android/iOS) and your language setting
This happens only when you tap "Send". No workout data is transmitted. The details serve solely to understand and answer your feedback. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
If the message cannot be transmitted – for example without an internet connection – the app offers to send it via your own email program to support.mgmedia@gmail.com instead. Your email provider's privacy terms then apply.
Training partners (optional)
The "Training partners" feature is off by default. If you turn it on in the settings, your device signs in anonymously with our processor Supabase (servers in Frankfurt, Germany, region eu-central-1) without an account and receives a random, pseudonymous identifier – no email, no password, no real name.
Only the following is transmitted and stored there:
- the display name you choose
- per exercise, your best set and your last set (weight, reps, date) plus the exercise name
- your pairings with partners and the times of the last update
Workout history, notes, plans and settings are not transmitted. Your values can be seen only by partners you paired yourself via a pairing code; there is no public directory. Your comparison values are updated after every saved workout.
You can remove pairings at any time. "Delete all partner data" in the settings removes identifier, display name, pairings and comparison values completely from the server. The legal basis is your consent given by actively turning the feature on (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR); turning it off or deleting withdraws it.
Backups & sharing
Using the export feature in the settings, you can create a backup file with your workout data. In addition, after a workout you can share a short text summary of your session via "Share workout", and a workout plan as a link – the plan is contained entirely in the link itself and is not stored on our server.
In both cases the content is created locally and only passed on if you actively send it via your device's share menu – you decide where (e.g. Files app, messenger, cloud storage) and with whom. When passing it to a third-party service, that provider's privacy terms apply.
Permissions
GymWerk does not require access to your camera, location, contacts or microphone.
Optionally, you can allow notifications. They are used exclusively locally on your device – for two purposes:
- to remind you when a rest period ends, and
- while a workout is running, as an ongoing notification that shows the rest timer and lets you check off sets and skip rest – including directly from the lock screen.
For the ongoing workout notification, a foreground service is used during the workout. No data is transmitted. The notifications are optional and can be turned off at any time in the app settings or the system settings.
Changes to this privacy policy
If features that process data change in the future (e.g. an optional cloud sync), we will update this policy accordingly and mark the date at the top.
